On March 21st, the National Energy Administration organized the launch meeting of the China-International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) cooperation special working group. The China Hydrogen Energy Alliance Research Institute ("Hydrogen Research Institute" for short) was approved as the head unit of the special working group in the field of hydrogen energy. The cooperation special working group will focus on promoting the construction of the China-IRENA cooperation network and exploring new models of international energy exchange and cooperation.
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is the most influential intergovernmental organization for renewable energy worldwide. To comprehensively enhance cooperation between China and IRENA, after the National Energy Administration and IRENA signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in 2021, the China-IRENA Cooperation Office was established in 2022. In April 2023, the Cooperation Guidance Committee, Cooperation Office, and special working groups were established. There are five special working groups in hydropower, energy transformation, hydrogen energy, grid, and solar energy, responsible for the specific implementation of cooperation between China and IRENA in relevant fields. This includes promoting policy dialogues, technical discussions, industry research, capacity building, and project docking, supporting and participating in IRENA-related cooperation frameworks, cooperation platforms, and professional activities, and enhancing China's influence in the international clean energy field.
As the leading unit of the China Hydrogen Energy Alliance, CHN Energy attaches great importance to international cooperation, technological innovation, and industrial development in the field of hydrogen energy. It regards hydrogen energy as an important area for strategic emerging industry layout and continuously promotes the construction of the green hydrogen energy industry chain and hydrogen energy innovation service chain, actively cultivating and incubating hydrogen energy innovation clusters. The Hydrogen Research Institute has previously been approved as the leading unit of the National Hydrogen Energy Information Platform, the leading unit of the Hydrogen Energy Special Project of the China-EU Energy Technology Innovation Cooperation Office, and the support unit for energy technology innovation monitoring in the field of hydrogen energy by the National Energy Administration.
